The Arts<\/h2>\n

The Arts, as one of the richest forms of area of knowledge (AOK) in TOK, includes a diversity of disciplines such as music, dance, theater, film, literature, visual arts, and architecture. If we look at all the forms of art, the meaning of art lies in the imaginative, subjective, perceptual understanding and skillful expression of creativity about what an artist intend to express.<\/p>\n

\u201cArt is the activity by which a person, having experienced an emotion, intentionally transmits it to others\u201d \u2013 Leo Tolstoy.<\/p>\n

Areas of knowledge<\/h2>\n

The arts as a wide area of knowledge may be unpacked through its\u00a0scope, perspectives, methods and tools,<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0ethics<\/b>\u00a0involved.<\/p>\n

While unpacking the\u00a0scope<\/b>\u00a0of the arts, we need to look at the roles of producer and receiver of the artwork in the\u00a0communication of art<\/i>. It is also important not to ignore the impact of technology on the nature of art.<\/p>\n

While the role of the artist\u2019s\u00a0intention<\/i>\u00a0is important in producing his artwork aesthetics, equally salient is the role of each audience\u2019s subjective response to the art, including the critic\u2019s critique. In communicating art, while there may be some formal patterns and medium creating a logical understanding of an artwork, there is an equally important element of originality, imagination, and creativity involved in the art produced which may have\u00a0subjective interpretation<\/i>.<\/p>\n

The Arts is often a carrier of traditional culture and identity.<\/p>\n
